I was able to eliminate kde4 rpms, except for the kdeupdateapplet, to ensure proper 3.5 behavior. My time zone is Arizona(Phoenix). I have set up ntp, to a server in Phoenix. In looking at the 'messages' startup log, I see times jump back and forth. The correct times show when the system shuts down. But it goes back 7 hours when it reboots. Finally, after a bootsplash message and a MARK, it is back to the correct time. The hardware clock is at the correct time. As I recall, I have not seen this behavior before. It does not occur on my 10.3 systems. A related case may be my laptop (which I don't have handy at this moment). In starting up, I eventually discover that the time is several days off, not just hours. I have to explore this some more, but I suspect it is the same problem as the desktop.
