Wow, that's an idiot-proof instruction. Thank you for that. This time it did
work for some reason...
So I tried the different modes and cannot see any real difference between modes
1 + 2 and 3 + 4.*
1 + 2: Both modes seem to work. The resolution is set correct and it fits the
screen perfectly. But there's this little flickering in both modes which is
quite annoying. I don't seem to have this to this extent when using xrandr
--output DVI-I_1/analog --mode 0x41. There, I would only see this flickering
every once in a while and not the whole time. I'll add a small video for you to
see what I mean. Interestingly enough, this flickering only occurs in the left
and right thirds of the screen and cannot be seen in the middle part. The video
understates how annoying this is because it only shows a small part of the
screen. Imagine it on 2/3s of your whole screen.
3 + 4: Again the behaviour for which I opened the bug report. The desktop
extents over both sides (left and right) of my screen. I also see the
flickering.
* modes 1-4 mean the following options:
1: Modeline "FooBar" 146.2 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 +HSync
-VSync
2: ModeLine "FooBar" 146.0 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -HSync
+VSync
3: ModeLine "FooBar" 119.00 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080
+HSync -VSync
4: ModeLine "FooBar" 119.00 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080
-HSync +VSync
