Thanks for your report.
I guess you've selected the 'PackageKit plugin' which doesn't support to show
upgrades. If you want to see upgrades you need to install the package
'kde4-kupdateapplet-zypp' and select 'zypp plugin' in kupdateapplet settings.
Please reopen this bug report if that doesn't help.
