It seems related to kde4, probably the kded4 program.
I have installed 11.1 as an upgrade of 10.3 and I still use KDE3. When I
freshly log in, the problem does not occur. As soon as I start a KDE4 program,
e.g. ktorrent, a number of extra programs are started: kdeinit4 (starting
several others), kded4 etc. As soon as this has happened, the problem is
there.
(for me, it starts using 100% CPU in Xorg after about 15 minutes)
When I stop the KDE4 program the extra kde4 programs remain active, but as soon
as I kill them manually the problem of Xorg CPU usage no longer occurs.
Someone on Usenet more closely identified kded4 as the program that has to be
killed, I have not tested this myself.
It certainly looks like something related to a screensaver option, but I have
not enabled any screensaver (I only use DPMS poweroff of the display after 45
minutes), and I have done an "rpm -e" of the screensaver package. This does
not change anything.
System: Intel E6850 dualcore, Nvidia 8500GT videocard, Nvidia 177.82 driver
installed from "Nvidia repository" via Yast.
