Hi Karl,
I just checked with my system: please try as follows:
Alt-F2 - xterm
call "octave" from within this xterm by tyoing octave at the prompt
for me it works perfectly with 11.1. However, you have to make sure that
1.) gnuplot is installed,
2.) even if you use an icon, you have to start octave within a terminal (like
xterm as depicted above), so the icon must be backed up with the appropriate
configuration.
Maybe there is a missing configuration in the kde-menu, but I would not see
this as a bug as long as octave is not disfunctional if you start it from
within a terminal.
Come back to me if you need further assistance, I think this is less an
openSUSE bug then poor information on how to get octave into operation as you'd
expect it to.
