Hmm... The board has three exposed SATA connectors. It looks like ata1.00 is
connected to some on-board device which doesn't respond to standard probing
sequence. SIMG5723 with newer firmware on recent gigabyte boards shows similar
symptoms (link online but device doesn't respond to SRST) but in Joseph's case
it doesn't seem to be a 5723 as there's no extra SATA ports. :-(

I suppose the only thing we can do is blacklisting the board. Can you please
post the output of "dmidecode"?
