Interesting. This still doesn't exclude the possibility of a bug in the driver
side, but it's good that you have a reproducible way.
Is the power-cable plugged to the machine? The power-saving feature is enabled
automatically when you unplug the AC cable. Then a sort of suspend happens on
the sound device after a certain time, likely before S2RAM.
You can check /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save whether it's
active or not. If it's a non-zero positive value, the power-saving feature is
on.
Could you check that?
Also, try to boot runlevel 3 (pass "3" as a boot option), and login as root.
Are analog loopback switches on or off?
