--- Comment #5 from Frederic garzon 2008-12-09 18:23:30 MST ---
Since sound worked with the beta5 live CD, I downgraded the
kernel/alsa/libasound RPMS to the same exact versions found on this CD (I used
the RPMs found on the beta 5 DVD):
garzon@sopranos:~> uname -a
Linux sopranos 2.6.27.5-2-pae #1 SMP 2008-11-11 15:15:33 +0100 i686 i686 i386
GNU/Linux
garzon@sopranos:~> rpm -qa | egrep '(kernel|alsa|libasound)' | sort
alsa-1.0.18-6.3
alsa-devel-1.0.18-6.3
alsa-firmware-1.0.17-1.39
alsa-oss-1.0.17-1.29
alsa-plugins-1.0.18-5.4
alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.18-5.4
alsa-tools-1.0.18-1.2
alsa-utils-1.0.18-5.4
kalsatools-1.5.0-595.27
kerneloops-0.12-29.7
kernel-pae-2.6.27.5-2.2
kernel-pae-base-2.6.27.5-2.2
libasound2-1.0.18-6.3
tsalsa-20080914-0.pm.1
with this stack, even after reboot, sound still does not work ! I don't
understand...
There must be something in my environment that breaks the alsa system...
I don't know if this is relevant, but when I run speaker-test, it gets stuck
and hogs 100% CPU. Here is its output
garzon@sopranos:~> speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
speaker-test 1.0.18
Playback device is plug:front
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 16384
Period size range from 32 to 8192
Using max buffer size 16384
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 4096
was set buffer_size = 16384
