https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=456125 Summary: ntp blocks the boot process very long if it cannot connect to the server Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- When starting ntp at boot and your internet connection is good, everything works smoothly. However, if you have issues with connecting to internet the boot process is stopped at the point when ntp tries to attach to it's server. This is a bad behaviour and should be changed. I fixed this by adding $ALL into "RequiredStart:" (well, and finding out that insserv before 11.1 is buggy, too, not being capable of handling the "$ALL" entry correctly .... but that's a different story). Nevertheless, IMHO it is not a good idea to allow ntp to keep your system from further booting, it should background itself rather than making you think your system is frozen .... If this cannot be modified easily, just put a $ALL into "RequiredSTart:", but watchout, this works only with a recent insserv from factory! Thank you for looking into this, take care Dieter Jurzitza -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
