This bug has been introduced at least with version 11.0 I tested.

IMHO this is not a minor bug : it totally prevent any user with a simple modem
to properly finish installation of OpenSuse 11.x, since so many packages are
now only downloadable.

The prolem is properly described by Martin :
- one need a modem to access the internet.
- but during the modem installation, a package is said unavailable for
(presumably) lack of Internet access ...
- thus modem installation which would provide Internet access fails.

As I am a Linux newbie, I could not tell what fails exactly (apparently from
the error messages it appears to be something related to smppd and/or
kinternet) nor if it is available on the DVD alternatively using some obscure
method.

I would just emphasis that it for a newbie it just irremediably fails and leave
one is a state of frustration since there is no logical issue to the problem
(no internet access thus no modem installation thus no internet access thus
..).

I must say alss that it did not fails with OpenSuse 10.2 using the same modem.
It really is a problem of a package needed to access internet that is only
available on Internet and this is a problem introduced with the new
internet-based package system (that I dislike much for other reasons as well
..).
