- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx

- Message-id: <bug-450150-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450150
Summary: kernel-ps3 hangs at illegal instruction
Product: openSUSE 11.1
Version: RC 1
Platform: PowerPC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: Critical
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
AssignedTo: sassmann@xxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: sassmann@xxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
CC: power-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Found By: Development
kernel-ps3 kills init because of an illegal instruction early during boot.
RPC:Registered udp transport module.
RPC:Registered tcp transport module.
Freeing unused kernel memory: 176k freed
init has generated signal 4 but has no handler for it
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
The reason for this is that the kernel tries to execute an ALTIVEC instruction
but the config has not set CONFIG_ALTIVEC.
Not sure why the kernel tries to execute ALTIVEC instructions at this point.
Enabling ALTIVEC in config file.
