Ah... okay. An external card. I frankly don't know how to proceed here. SATA
ports, e or not, don't differ logically. The only thing which makes external
ports external is having different kind of connector at externally accessible
position. For on-board ports, the motherboard or laptop manufacturer knows
which ports are facing outside and set the ahci controller bits accordingly to
tell the OS that those ports are external, but if you put in an add-on card,
unless the add-on card has such markings (BTW 3124/32 doesn't have any such
mechanism) there's no way to tell whether it's facing inside or outside and
they can't be whitelisted as they're not fixed.
One thing we can do is to follow device tree and if it's connected via cardbus
mark it external, which should be correct for most cases but I think this can
easily be done from hal, right?
