The "default" PCM setup is another story. Right now, just concentrate on
iec958.
Usually, an app that wants to send the signal to SPDIF opens "iec958" PCM
explicitly. You overload that definition, which breaks things.
Please upload the generated file via "alsactl -f somefile store" at this state.
Then, run like "aplay -Dplug:iec958 foo.wav".
Does this give any error?
