Did you test kernel-pae-2.6.27.1-2.1, which is based on 2.6.27.1, as well?

I get a crash during _hibernation_ from the vanilla 2.6.27.4 build with out PAE
config, while with my own config hibernation was 100% reliable.  I need to find
the config option that makes the difference.

While I'm looking for that, it would be helpful to verify if 2.6.27.1 with the
PAE config has the same problem (I'll attach the PAE config in the next
comment).
