Summary: Cannot user-mount writable NTFS partition
Product: openSUSE 11.1
Version: Beta 3
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Other
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have the following entry in my /etc/fstab:
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD501LJ_S10NJ1GP701972-part1 /windows/C
ntfs-3g noatime,user,noauto,users,gid=users,fmask=133,dmask=022,locale=sv_SE
0 0

The fstab entry was created by the installer, directed by my input.
Consequently, I expect to be able to user-mount the partition, "mount
/windows/C". However, I get the following error output"

Error opening '/dev/sda1': Permission denied
Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Permission denied
Please check '/dev/sda1' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged

Being a fairly seasoned Linux user, I have been able to solve such problems in
the past, but I'm getting increasingly tired of having to go through the same
manual routine every time I upgrade to a new version of my distribution. And
what is an ordinary recent convert to Linux to do when presented with such a
problem?

In my opinion, this just ought to work straight out of the box. Therefore, I
consider this a bug, and not just an low-priority enhancement (see bug
#432905).
