I reduced the number of "workspaces" to 1 using "Compiz Config". That did not
help and the result was the same as in Workspace 1 when there are 4 workspaces.
I then tried a "right click" on the icon in the bottom panel and got the menu.
(I just guessed that, I never knew it was there before -- I never needed to
know). That gave me all the necessary controls.
I was then able to use the "Maximize" to get the whole window in view, and I
allowed it to "move" and got it set up in a workable manner.
It does appear that the smallest size for the window is 600 lines, so that it
just barely fits inside this size of screen. I have thought about this before.
There will be more use of small screens such as this 1024 x 600, and even
smaller ones like the 800 x 480 of the Nokia N800 and N810 (which are being
called "Mobile Internet Devices" or "MIDs" lately). For a very long term plan
you might want to try something like this:
I think you could break down the current displays to smaller sizes contained in
"tiles". A tile might be about 400 pixels wide by 300 pixels (lines) high.
You could then arrange 1 tile inside a tabbed window for small screens. For
larger screens you could have an option for 2 or 3 tiles high, or 2 or 3 tiles
wide per tabbed screen. Then you could select which tiles go in which screen,
something like icons.
I have a pretty good idea how much programming I just described, so I would not
expect to see it done by 11.1, or 11.2, or . . . ;-)
Anyway, it was just a though.
