Hrm, we can do this, but this will require a patch. It's a glade file:
gui/simple-greeter/gdm-greeter-login-window.glade if you want to play with it.

The centered position doesn't work for me though. I'd rather not have anything
above the user list than an icon centered over there. Can we tweak the layout
of the dialog a bit?
