hi there,


i had a clean normally appearing kde4 desktop (as root user for example) on a
clean install of opensuse 11.0 x86 (dvd iso image).

then i did an upgrade to 11.1 beta3.

upgrade went "normal", then it rebooted the installed 11.1 beta3 with kexec and
i logged into kd4 using the root user.

the desktop comes up, but i dont have a "start menu", nor any more icons in the
lower grey bar, nor any clock/watch, updater icon, virtual desktop areas or
anything except an empty grey bar.


im not a big desktop user of linux, so im not fluent in kde stuff and such.
there is some kind of element at the lower right corner of the screen wich i
can click and then an additional line above this grey bar gets displayed with
some icons and buttons like "screen edge, height add widgets lock widgets more
settings a red x (cross)) and in the upper right corner of the screen there is
this yellow/orange-ish half-sphere which you can click which used to exist in
11.0 kde4 too, which dynamically animates and extends three functions like "add
widgets, zoom out, lock widgets".... whatever these kde4 elements are called.
