Next round. Yesterday I got my Intel D945GCLF board with:
10: PCI 100.0: 0200 Ethernet controller
[...]
Model: "Realtek RTL8101E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller"
Vendor: pci 0x10ec "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd."
Device: pci 0x8136 "RTL8101E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller"
SubVendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation"
SubDevice: pci 0x0001
Revision: 0x02
Driver: "r8169"
[...]
and I plugged in an additional
09: PCI 400.0: 0200 Ethernet controller
[...]
Model: "Realtek RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet"
Vendor: pci 0x10ec "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd."
Device: pci 0x8169 "RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet"
SubVendor: pci 0x10ec "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd."
SubDevice: pci 0x8169
Revision: 0x10
Driver: "r8169"
[...]
Installed opensuse 11 32bit. With the default kernel shipped and from the
updates I get about 10MB/s transfer rate. Updating to KOTD
2.6.25.19-2-pae increases it to approximately 15 MB/s:
linux-97ck:/data # scp -r beaker:/srv/ftp/test .
Password:
test 100% 2048MB 14.6MB/s 02:20
linux-97ck:/data #
If I copy the same 2GB file onto a system using opensuse 11 and a Broadcom NIC
I get:
sascha@fozzy:~> scp root@beaker:/srv/ftp/test .
test 100% 2048MB 37.2MB/s 00:55
sascha@fozzy:~>
Minor difference ;)
I am currently downloading openSUSE 11.1 BETA 3 and will give it a try. BTW:
Changing NIC options on openSUSE 11 using ethtool does not work either. I also
tried the driver from realtek's homepage without luck.
