I'm going to add this snippet to the openSUSE RNs:
<sect3 id="ldap-server-cfg" status="2008-10-17">
<title>LDAP Server Configuration</title>
<para>YaST does not store the LDAP Server configuration in
<filename>/etc/openldap/slapd.conf</filename> any longer. YaST now uses
OpenLDAP's dynamic configuration backend, which stores the configuration in an
LDAP database itself. That database consists of a set of
<literal>.ldif</literal> files in <filename>/etc/openldap/slapd.d</filename>.
To access the configuration either use the yast2-ldap-server module or an LDAP
client such as <command>ldapmodify</command> or
<command>ldapsearch</command>.</para>
<para>For details on the dymanic configuration of OpenLDAP, see the OpenLDAP
Administration Guide.</para>
</sect3>
