hi,
the fix is indeed easy, so i'm going to implement it - for 11.1 at least.
(i don't think that this qualifies as severe enough to do an update for 10.3.
you can use bleeding-edge python from devel:languages:python:Factory
buildservice repo if you need to stay with the old distro)

however, for the sake of correctness, i'm not entirely convinced that it is a
"bug" per se - according to
http://www.python.org/doc/2.5.2/inst/search-path.html, for example, editing
site.py is a legal way to customize the installation (see also
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=411541 in which i'm pretty certain
that the fault is on virtualenv's side). This is a discrepancy that probably
should be addressed more clearly in the python documentation ... oh well. Some
other time, perhaps, sorry for this discourse ;e)
