AFAIK the kernel just goes through serial devices it finds and assigns them a
to ttyS (not sure).
To identify a tablet device it needs to read/write into the serial device which
is probably not a good idea (go through each ttySx and read write to it).
I could imagine things are exposed via ACPI and one could identify a tablet
serial device from the name or even the HID of it's ACPI device. That would
make it possible to identify it as a tablet device without the need of
reading/writing to it.
Bjorn AFAIK fixed up some acpipnp parts for tablet devices, he might be able to
give us a quick pointer how serial tablet device identifcation should work.
