There are two things here:
+ on a current laptop, the real DPI is around 120. And thus we're hit by this:

So we can either dynamically change the default font size when using the X
DPI
(to what?), or go back to force 96 by default.
I don't really understand why this came back. It was working in 11.0, wasn't
it?
+ g-s-d and g-a-p disagree about this, and launching g-a-p sets the DPI to 96
(which kind of "fixes" the first item).
FWIW, this doesn't happen when using Xephyr. Need to see if I can reproduce
with real X (after reboot).
Also, this is broken in interesting ways: if you use two screens, they might
not have the same DPI. Hrm. Fun.
