To comment #2: yast copies /etc/mtab to /mnt/etc/mtab (to the target system),
the comment in the code says "Write a fake mtab to the target system since some
%post scripts might need it.".

The question is whether it is really needed.

Anyway, I have found when the inst-sys gets broken:

- start Alpha3plus installation
- switch to the 2nd console
- 'df' output is OK
- 'extend cracklib-dist-full.rpm'
- 'df' output is still OK
- 'extend -r cracklib-dist-full.rpm'
- 'df' output is now broken

So the removal of the extension broke the inst-sys.
