Great, the blacklisting of the snd_hda_intel driver worked. I can now use all
the 7 USB storage devices which I tried. I've mounted one at a time and it
worked, two also worked but not more. I'm not sure where the limit is but at
least I can work with this workaround.
Note that my interrupt lists now looks quite different and the EMU10K1 now
appears there. Here is the output from 'cat /proc/interrupts' after the
blacklisting:
CPU0
0: 387393 XT-PIC-XT timer
1: 1093 XT-PIC-XT i8042
2: 0 XT-PIC-XT cascade
5: 8762 XT-PIC-XT EMU10K1
6: 4 XT-PIC-XT floppy
7: 0 XT-PIC-XT parport0
8: 0 XT-PIC-XT rtc0
10: 109237 XT-PIC-XT uhci_hcd:usb1, ehci_hcd:usb2,
uhci_hcd:usb4, ohci_hcd:usb5
11: 30526 XT-PIC-XT acpi, ohci_hcd:usb3, eth0
12: 143403 XT-PIC-XT i8042
14: 95910 XT-PIC-XT pata_via
15: 63771 XT-PIC-XT pata_via
NMI: 0 Non-maskable interrupts
LOC: 0 Local timer interrupts
RES: 0 Rescheduling interrupts
CAL: 0 function call interrupts
TLB: 0 TLB shootdowns
TRM: 0 Thermal event interrupts
SPU: 0 Spurious interrupts
ERR: 0
MIS: 0
Now that we have a workaround, the urgency is greatly diminished, although
there is obviously a bug since the wrong driver gets loaded and causes havok on
the system. Please let me know if any information is needed to diagnose this
further.
NOTE: I have not tried the USB keyboard which also did not work on this system,
I will report on it shortly. Seems like the state of the USB system prior to
the workaround would have affected all USB devices.
