I am unable to boot using the kernel built using your instructions.
Using the initrd file installed by "make install", I get the following message:
Waiting for device /disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_HTS721010G9AT00_MPC0B2Y0GKJPHE-part8
to appear.
This is followed by a timeout message offering to fall back to the same device.
I tried changing the root device to /dev/sda8 in /etc/fstab, /etc/lilo. The
results were similar, "Waiting for device /dev/sda8 to appear."
I tried using the mkinitrd command from your instructions, with the same
results.
I tried adding "-d /dev/sda8" to your mkinitrd command. Same results.
Suggestions?
Next question: Your installation instructions do not address changing config
options. What procedure do you recommend?
- Editing .config manually (ignoring the warning)?
- Using the suggested "make config" (which to my recollection is completely
impractical, with a progression of literally hundreds of questions)?
- Using "make menuconfig", or whatever new tool is available?
