I'm not sure how to interpret this part:

Do you mean that if you put lan:// or cifs:// in the URL field you get this
message?  Or is this a message that appears in addition to the "file or folder
xxx does not exist" ?

I suspect you mean that when you put "lan://" or "cifs://" in, and this part is
correct.  smb://... is the right way to do it.

I still would like the info on what version of KDE you chose.  I'm suspecting
this is 3.5 if you did an upgrade.  Just put in the info from Help->About
Konqueror.
