I did not realise you were getting slow performance.
You said that commands "hang", and I assumed this meant that they
never returned.  That would be consistent with the BUG_ON firing.

Can you provide more information about this slowness?  Are all
operations slow or just some?  Does performance steadily get worse?
Does it sometimes get better?
