Summary: Virtualization: KVM package disallows "-no-kvm"
parameter
Product: openSUSE 11.1
Version: Factory
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Other

Hi,
In openSUSE packaged version of KVM, it is not possible to use "-no-kvm"
command parameter. Upstream KVM package allows this.
This parameter disabled kernel acceleration (KVM) module, and runs in software
emulation mode.
Without this, it's very difficult to debug end-user problems.
Of course pure Qemu can be used, but KVM's userspace is modified Qemu, so it
makes sense sometimes to use KVM with "-no-kvm" parameter. (for debugging
purposes and troubleshooting of end-user's problems).
In order to allow emulation:
-we need either to see if it can run using GCC4 compiler.
or
-if GCC4 won't work, we can "embed" GCC3, like Qemu SRPM does.
Please forward this problem to "Qemu" or "KVM" package maintainers.
