--- Comment #3 from Christian Boltz
I spoke with Dieter and give here his summarized comments: He sees that you brought up some good points and will consider them for a successor version.
Then my bugreport was worth the invested time :-)
Anyway he wasn't that happy that you to judge the whole training as "low content quality" as clearly you're describing some issues but it sounds like the whole product offers low quality.
Maybe I was a bit overreacting - but as always: bugs and problems are more visible than things that are simply correct and working... (just look at bugzilla: there are lots of bugs and problems, but it looks like nothing just works[tm] ;-)
For example easylinux sees that differently
Indeed, their article is very positive. They see it more from the newbie point of view (which is definitively not wrong).
Please consider that a new user to Linux is addressed with this training and not a savvy one.
I know, and as I already wrote, a newbie might judge totally different. I'm sort of "betriebsblind" - it is quite hard for someone like me who knows linux and opensuse since years to run in a "doing things like a newbie" mode. I guess this is also the reason why I judged that hard.
Especially your complaint about showing a KDE 4.0 crash is questionable especially in the open source environment where transparency and openess are important values. The intention of this is not doing bad marketing the intention is to give guidance avoiding such a crash.
There's a reason why I wrote "from the marketing POV" ;-) Don't get me wrong: I know that KDE 4.0 is not perfect and don't say that this should be kept secret. However, demoing a crash is a bit overmuch IMHO.
Generally the producers of the training made very good experience being honest to users instead of offering some nice marketing bla and let them alone with issues they will run into.
Interesting to hear.
FYI: Dieter worked for years as trainer. Dieter hasn't received a 2nd complaint like yours but want to thank you for your feedback.
I'd also like to thank you for writing the feedback with all the details instead of a simple "the box is out of the door, we can't change it anyway". For me, it looks like this bugreport has brought up some things that can (and will) be made better in the 11.1 videos. And that's a good thing :-) One last proposal: Please give the 11.1 videos to some experts for review - for example, someone from the KDE team should check the KDE videos before they are put onto the DVD. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
