I can't precisely answer where it comes from.
I did have a manually installed driver about a year ago, but I removed it and
have been using the official one. It was an rpm package so it shouldn't have
left any garbage behind. Since then I have installed several updates to it
through Yast and everything was fine until last week. Is there a way to find
out what exactly does not belong there and remove it?
