- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx

- Message-id: <bug-414478-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=414478
Summary: ntp enabled at boot time results in having no tty1-6
available
Product: openSUSE 11.0
Version: Final
Platform: x86
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: mailstijn@xxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Found By: ---
When NTP is configured to be activated during the boot process, my system
(laptop/desktop use) correctly boots up into graphical mode. I don't have any
problems working with it.
But when you try to reach tty1-6, all you get is a blinking cursor and nothing
more. The cursor responds to no input at all, it's impossible to log in since
there's no login prompt.
When you try to reach tty1 you see the series of daemon startup messages, you
can type all kinds of stuff below those messages (it responds to input) but you
get no login prompt either.
When you exclude NTP from the boot process ("manual" option in Yast),
everything's "normal" again.
