After more extensive testing I think this bug should be escalated back to
critical.
I have managed to get another network card so that I can do some more extensive
testing, I have tested the following 3 ethernet ports:
nVidia Ethernet controller
RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
Belkin F5D5005 Gigabit Desktop Network PCI Card
The nVidia port is built into the motherboard, the other 2 cards are PCI cards.
All 3 ports trigger freezes when starting programs or shutting down the system.
Only the 2 ports on PCI cards trigger the ata frozen messages in the log.
Just to recap: these problems are only triggered by cifs or streaming over the
network, other network traffic does not cause any problems, once triggers the
problems continue until the system is shutdown.
