Bart: hrm, do you mind doing a few tests?

For example, log out, make sure that there's no process running for your user,
move ~/.gconf to ~/.gconf.bak (do not remove it or you'll lose your setting),
check that the numpad works in gdm and log in again. Do you still see the
issue?

(you can then log out again, make sure there's no process running for your user
and replace ~/.gconf with your old ~/.gconf.bak)
