Every environment that omits MC is too broken for me to use without pain and
suffering. MC is indispensible to virtually everything I do besides access web
pages, particularly if X is broken. MC contains ftp, and how I do manual
package fetching when repository access is broken and some test or updated
package needs to be installed to fix zypper, yast and/or smart. It's also how I
fetch every kernel, which I normally rpm -i instead of having a fancy package
manager automatically delete working kernels and leave a system unbootable. MC
contains the only text editor I'm familiar enough with to use. Every compact
toolkit (e.g. live CD) needs a swiss army knife (multipurpose tool). MC is on
all Knoppix bootable media, so I'll be sticking to it for all live CD booting,
and all live CD recommendations.
