NetworkManager tries to maintain a connection for every device in the system in parallel. Therefore it might happen that you have a wireless and a wired connection at the same time. The default route should be on the wired device.
In which situation did KNM show the wrong icon?
I have only tested wireless. I will test wired in about 1 Hr 30 Minutes when I get to work. While connected to Wireless I am getting the Green Globe
Creating a new connection should show the list of available networks. They simply do not show up in the context menu anymore.
Agreed. The user should never have to run iwlist.
So an extra step was added to making a connection? What was wrong with listing them all and just clicking on the one you wanted (which in turn created the new connection for you if open, or asked for the required encryption protocol / key). That was a very straight forward approach that most users are not only used to, but what makes the most sense in terms of usability.
