What is the output from dmesg after running these tools (kopete, gqcam,
camsource, webkam)?

Could you also try testing applications after running the following commands as
root in a terminal and attach the dmesg output:

$ rmmod uvcvideo
$ modprobe uvcvideo trace=0xffff
