https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396197 Summary: Not enough symbol information in ld.so and libc.so to let Valgrind work properly Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: PowerPC-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: pth@novell.com ReportedBy: bart.vanassche@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer After having installed openSUSE 10.3 on a ppc64 system (e.g. a PS3), run the following commands: svn co svn://svn.valgrind.org/valgrind/trunk valgrind-trunk cd valgrind-trunk && ./autogen.sh && ./configure && make -s && make -s check /vg-in-place --tool=memcheck memcheck/tests/addressable Expected result: Valgrind works properly. Actual result: Valgrind prints a fatal error message at startup. The error message hints to install the debuginfo packages for glibc. Valgrind should work without having to install these packages (see also https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396196). ==19421== Memcheck, a memory error detector. ==19421== Copyright (C) 2002-2008, and GNU GPL'd, by Julian Seward et al. ==19421== Using LibVEX rev 1849, a library for dynamic binary translation. ==19421== Copyright (C) 2004-2008, and GNU GPL'd, by OpenWorks LLP. ==19421== Using valgrind-3.4.0.SVN, a dynamic binary instrumentation framework. ==19421== Copyright (C) 2000-2008, and GNU GPL'd, by Julian Seward et al. ==19421== For more details, rerun with: -v ==19421== valgrind: Fatal error at startup: a function redirection valgrind: which is mandatory for this platform-tool combination valgrind: cannot be set up.
