Summary: Repeatable System Lock : Moving External HDD Copy Dialog
Hard Crashes
Product: openSUSE 11.0
Version: RC 1
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0
Status: NEW
Severity: Critical
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Hotplug

Attaching a USB external HDD (Elements with 500gb WD FAT32) there is a
repeatable crash that totally locks the system. Following numerous tests I have
conducted the crash is caused by a user moving a copy window involving the
Elements drive. Steps to replicate:

1. Connect the external HDD
2. Watch it be mounted in Dolphin
3. Copy a file from the external HDD into the clipboard
4. Move to the home dir in Dolphin
5. Paste the file
6. Copy window dialog is displayed while copying
7. Attempt to move the copy window and observe the hard lock

I have been through the system log but found no logging about the hard lock. I
am not sure how to diagnose this further.

I did a similar test without involving the elements external HDD (just copying
within the home dir tree) and was able to move around the copy window without
the system having any errors.

Another test I did shows that the hard lock occurs when moving a single file or
a number of files from the external HDD.

I am using the Nvidia 173.14.05 kernel module.
