Summary: Slab: Search field does nothing
Product: openSUSE 11.0
Version: RC 1
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: GNOME
AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The search field in Slab does nothing, at least it is not apparent to me what
it does..
Knowing Mac OS X, Windows and KDE4, I would expect that the search field has a
Spotlight-like functionality. However, I cannot get it to launch an
application:
When I click on "Computer" and then enter "gnome-screenshot" into the box at
the top of the menu and press enter, I would expect either
a) I can watch the list of "matching" applications and documents as I type
(preferred; like Spotlight); or
b) gnome-screenshot launches when I press enter; or
c) The computer is searched for files that have gnome-screenshot in their name
and/or content; or
d) an error box telling that the "Search" has found nothing
But nothing of that sort happens.
Instead:
Nothing at all.
Looks like the user input went straight to /dev/null.
(That being said, I think that Slab in its current form is pretty unergonomic
for people who use their computer for more than 4 or 5 applications. Every
other application menu has at least *all* the applications in it. How am I
supposed to launch any application besides the somewhat randomly picked ones
that are placed prominently in the menu? Having to launch an extra window that
looks like a control panel just in order to launch an application is not needed
in any other OS that I'd know of.)
