According to attachment #217042 HAL knows your device
but it does not know it as a scanner, i.e. the line
info.capabilities = {'scanner'} (string list)
is missing in the "lshal" output.
HAL knows those devices which are listed in
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/70-scanner.fdi
aout-of-the box to be scanners.
On my openSUSE 11.0 beta3 system I have in 70-scanner.fdi
----------------------------------------------------------------------
<match key="usb_device.vendor_id" int="0x04b8">
<match key="usb_device.product_id" int="0x082e">
<append key="info.capabilities" type="strlist">scanner</append>
</match>
</match>
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I assume you have it too.
Didn't a USB re-plug or a system reboot help for you
as recommended in such cases in the above stderr message?
