OK, the problem is there, so let's make it LATER (pretty close to WONTFIX,
though :)

Splitting the package is a bit difficult because it's a single script that
calls everything.  The improvement of error messages sounds like the most
realistic solution, but this won't mean that any possible breakage of package
builds that depend on a2x PDF output...
