https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=390554 Summary: LiveCD won't boot on older Dell computers Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fwheeler_1@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer I have a fleet of older Dell computers (primarily Dimension XPS B866 with PIII, 256Mb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS). Some have just one CD (LiteOn LTN4833 48x) while others have this CD plus a CD-RW (LG CD-RW CED-8080B). When the ROM is set to boot from CD, these computers will boot to the Welcome screen, then when one of the options is chosen (OpenSUSE or Failsafe) will hang. (Note: the OpenSUSE 11 LiveCDs--either Gnome or KDE--work on several other computers) After pressing the Esc key, it is hanging after the "Probing uhci-hcd" command and repeats "Drive not ready yet--waiting" and "Couldn't find CD image config. file". After pressing Alt-F3, the error console looks normal until the following: "mount /dev/sr1 /cdrom", then "mount: you must specify the file system type", this keeps repeating. I have found a work-around for the computers with the CD/CD-RW combo: burn identical copies of the CD, put one each in the CD and CD-RW, let the computer boot, then as a boot option type in "noboot /dev/sr1". The computer will then boot from the CD-RW using the LiveCD. Of course, this work-around is of no use for the computers with just CD drive only. --Fw -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
