In my specific case for the 'HP dc7700p Convertible Minitower' I think I found
the root cause of the problem.
After a look in the BIOS setup I've found that the parallel port was
deactivated. I don't know why it was, but I guess it was shipped like that.
If I activate the device in the BIOS the parport module successfully locates
a parallel port at IRQ 7 and does not hijack IRQ 14 - hence the harddrive
gets found. The issue is reproducible by activating and deactivating the
parallel port in the BIOS.
As far as it concerns my issue I think it's solved, but still interesting to
me is, why 11.0b3 behaves that different from 10.3 and why parport grabs IRQ14
when it should not grab anything at all.
