[Bug 383866] Cannot boot installed 11.0-Beta1 -- sda disk errors

Yes it does -- but in a weird way. Commands which require reads from or writes
to the root partition cease to work, including commands which have not been
executed recently enough to be cached in memory. Some commands will hang
solid. Commands which do not require reads from the root partition continue to
work.
I am presently downloading the Beta2 DVD's (that process was not bothered by
the modprobe as it was writing to a separate disk :-) and will try Beta2 today
or tomorrow.
I took a look at what Win-XP does with that device and found that it is driven
by the "Microsoft UAA Bus driver for HDA". I only use Linux, so I don't know
if it does anything useful that the snd-atiixp driver does not do for Linux (I
have always been quite happy with the sound quality.)
