I just tried kernel-vanilla-2.6.25-19.x86_64.rpm from factory, and it also
requires irqpoll in order to boot -- so I guess it must have something to do
with new code in the bootup procedure (hardware probing, udev or whatever.)

Personally I can live with adding irqpoll to my own kernel command line for
this machine.  I will leave it up to you guys to close this bug or not, because
fixing it will save other users a whole lot of trouble (I am not the only one
with a computer like this one.)

Let me know if there is anything you would like me to try.
