The date "Apr 12" indicates that the above output
was not made "directly after reboot" as I requested.
To be safe that no other obscure magic changed the
permissions later, please provide the output of
LC_ALL=POSIX ls -l /dev/lp0
directly after reboot.
According to the udev rules the device file permissions should be
crw-rw---- root lp ...
at least directly after reboot i.e. the group is set to "lp"
so that the CUPS backend which runs as user lp can send data
to the device.
