It seems there is a big (driver?) issue with the beta1 DVD. If I boot from it,
the installation starts, but stops after accepting the license, with an error
that no repository can be found on the medium. If I try to check the medium
after booting it complains that it is not an openSUSE CD/DVD.
The iso from which I burned and the DVD itself has a good md5sum:

Now the interesting part: when I tried to reproduce the bug inside a vmware
session, there was no such error for the media check (installation hangs though 
after loading the network drivers).
 My assumption is that after booting it fails to detect my DVD, but I couldn't
see any suspect messages after booting.

The DVD is on /dev/hdc, connected to the VIA IDE controller. The CPU is a dual
core Opteron.
