OK. My example was just a ls from the installed system - so maybe the symlink gets installed a second time later.
So we have: libncurses5 gets installed too late.
please note that I hit this problem while _UPDATING_ from 10.3 to beta-1, so there was already a libcurses installed before! but when that error showed up and I switched to VC2, that /lib64/libncurses.so.5 was missing (in 10.3 it was a symlink to libncurses.so.5.6 too, so not even wrong so-version or similar). I added that symlink (actual I've copied it fromthe old backup system) to step on.... I'll attach my fyll y2log for this update, maybe this can give some hints when the symlink vanished ?! here is a quick "summary": YaST2 # grep -i ncurses.so y2log-6 2008-04-20 11:43:28 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(ncurses WITH /lib64/libncurses.so.5) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 11:43:28 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(yast2-ncurses WITH /usr/lib64/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 11:43:29 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(y2base WITH /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so.2) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 11:55:05 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(ncurses WITH /lib64/libncurses.so.5) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 11:55:06 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(yast2-ncurses WITH /usr/lib64/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 11:55:06 <1> linux(3394) [zypp] Testcase.cc(helixXMLzypp::Capability):136 ignoring namespace:splitprovides(y2base WITH /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so.2) cause this format will be supported 2008-04-20 12:06:52 <5> linux(3394) [zypp] Exception.cc(log):119 RpmDb.cc(doInstallPackage):2058 THROW: RpmDb.cc(doInstallPackage):2058: Subprocess failed.
