Although I prefer the DejaVu fonts myself, the agfa fonts certainly
look very nice *if* the hinting settings are not messed up. You should
set hinting to full and not use the autohinter for the agfa fonts.
Can you please find out whether starting KDE4 changes anything in
~/.fonts.conf?
